Crop Report for May 2, 2012: Corn Planting Progressed Rapidly

Corn planting progressed rapidly in most areas last week as Iowa’s farmers took full advantage of the 4 days that were suitable for fieldwork, said Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey in the Crops and Weather Report issued April 30. Corn planting advanced at least 25 percentage points in each district of the state.

Despite scattered showers and cooler temperatures that set in toward the week’s end, good planting progress was made across Latham Country. The percentage of corn acres planted is ahead of the 5-year average in all territories where Latham® seeds get planted. Following is a summary based on the weekly crop conditions released April 30 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

If corn planting continues at its accelerated pace, soybean acres could dwindle causing soybean prices tp become even more bullish, according to a recent post on the Farmland Forecast. To view the most recent crop updates for a specific region, select a territory in the drop-down menu below.
