North Central Iowa Crop Report: June 6, 2012

Crops in North Iowa are progressing nicely. Corn is all over the place on the development scale as early plantings have a huge lead over later planted fields. Replanting was more of an issue here than most years as wet spots and crusting did cause problems with emergence.

Rains have been spotty and manageable over the last week. We are looking at a week of warm, sunny weather here with temps in the 80′s so some moisture would be welcome.

Soybeans struggled with even emergence due to some dry spots in the area. The light rains most of North Iowa experienced were enough to get emergence though. Latham 2084′s look very good in the fields around the area. The Latham 2440′s and L1985′s are also looking good in fields I’ve scouted. I’ve started placing some bets around the company on who the yield winner will be for 2012. It should be another exciting year as high bean prices and our industry leading bean line up come together for some very profitable acres.
