I’d like your vote! I’m not running for elected office, and I promise that I won’t ask you to dig into your wallet (unless you really want to, that is!). I am, however, trying to help bring awareness to an issue that touches Americans – Breast Cancer.
Why is Latham’s Forage Products Manager interested in blogging about breast cancer? It’s because I also work part-time as an Emergency Room Paramedic at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. This year a group from the hospital decided to enter the Pink Glove Contest. Real-life, healthcare professionals – not paid actors – had fun creating a video to help bring attention to a very serious cause. It’s our hope that, as a result of this video contest, women will be diligent about getting exams and taking preventative measures.
More than 260 hospitals and other healthcare-related organizations across the nation have submitted videos are competing for grand prizes, which will then be donated to the breast cancer charity of their choice. The amounts of the donations are $10,000 for 1st place; $5,000 for 2nd place; and $2,000 for 3rd place. There’s a lot at stake, so the time you take to vote towards will be gratefully appreciated.
The Pink Glove Contest is being held in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness month. You’ve probably noticed that athletes, celebrities, government officials and fashion icons are wearing pink and helping to raise awareness about Breast Cancer.
You can join the cause, too. Even if you don’t want to wear pink or get involved with a fundraiser, I hope you can spare a minute to vote for Regions Hospital in the Pink Glove Dance. I hope you’ll cast your vote by midnight on Nov. 2 and encourage your friends to do the same. Your vote is a sign of support for those who are fighting breast cancer, those who have survived it, and may even help encourage others to undergo preventative evaluation. Go Pink!
