As Vice President of Latham Hi-Tech Seeds, I first want to thank you for your comment. One thing we take great pride in is helping farmers feed and fuel the world ? that’s a big responsibility that literally grows each day.

It’s projected that by 2050, we will need to produce 70 percent more food than we do today to meet the demands of the growing global population. Quality seed is key to improving agricultural productivity and overall yields. We need seed that can better fight the challenges Mother Nature throws our way, including drought, insects and disease. Thankfully, there are seed products in the pipeline that will be more effective against such growing challenges.

You mention health studies and it’s a great topic. GMOs undergo rigorous testing, as they are subjected to the substantial equivalence principle to help ensure their nutritional content is equivalent to that of conventional foods, and they must prove that they pose no danger for humans or the environment. Regarding nutrition and the environment, it’s exciting that the basis of this technology may also offer solutions to decrease pollution, generate energy and offer even more nutritious foods in the future.

I recognize your passion for this topic and welcome you to contact me as I never look away from the opportunity to gain and share knowledge. Please feel free to contact me at (641) 692-3258.

Funny thing is that if the public were made aware of the fact that genetically engineered corn was loosed upon them 15 years ago without warning, human health studies or labels, perhaps the focus today would be on "yielding" nutritious food rather than a bulk commodity with patented genetics and questionable human health benefits.

This recipe sounds great! I love peaches! My family usually attends the North Dakota state fair in Minot (unfortunately the fair was cancelled this year due to flooding). I enjoy walking through the 4-H displays. Maybe because I was also in 4-H. There's always some creative crafts, tasty baking, nice garden produce and amazing photography.

I have a remedy for the Goss's Wilt. Procidic will insure a good harvest infected by it if applied immediately. It is 30.00 per acre applying 16 oz per acre. If it were applied sooner it could have been as little as 10.00 per acre.

You're most welcome, Terry. I appreciate your comment. As a former 4-H, I had so much fun writing this story! I'll be eager to hear how your grandkids do with all of their projects.

I enjoyed reading about your mobile herb garden so that much I'm thinking about starting one myself! Ironically, your herb garden was on my mind when I opened "Guideposts" magazine to this recipe for "Slow-Roasted Cherry Tomato Topping." Perhaps others who enjoy gardening might also like to try this recipe: http://bit.ly/q4oLbU.
