Crop Report 05/16/12: Corn Planting Nears the End

Warm, dry weather allowed farmers across Latham Country to work rapid pace. Corn planting in Iowa now stands at 90% complete, ahead of last year’s 85% and the five-year average of 79%. Farmers statewide planted about 30% of the expected soybean crop last week. Northwest Iowa had the largest increase with 39 percentage points, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s May 14 crop and weather report.
