LH 5579 SS is a stand-out at this plot

The Latham® corn and soybean plot of Doolaard Farms near Steamboat Rock, Iowa, looks excellent despite dry conditions. Corn is at the R1 to R2 stage, and pollination is coming along great. Latham LH 5779 SS is a standout number here, holding up to the low moisture and high temperatures. Soybeans are at R2 to R3 stages with pod set beginning. Grasshopper feeding has occurred due to the hot, dry weather. There is no prevalent weed pressure at this time and aphids have not yet been seen.

Latham Hi-Tech Seeds RSM Kevin Meyer in a corn plot near Steamboat Rock, Iowa

Latham Hi-Tech Seeds Regional Sales Manager Kevin Meyer planted a corn and soybean plot at the farm of Tony, Alex and Jeremy Doolaard near Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Corn was planted on April 24 and is currently at V8-V9 stage. It has been side-dressed with nitrogen. Weed pressure is low, and there is no disease or insect pressure at this time.

Soybeans were planted on May 7 into good soil moisture. Stands are looking great and have been sprayed with herbicide. The area is 137.5 heat units above average from the historical average. Total rainfall since April 1 is 7.23”.
